According to the AABB and the DGHS manual, you need to have the following settings for better results.

RCF:- The value of the RCF should be 5000g.

Temperature Range:- For the PRP method and the Bufycoat method the temperature should range between 22°C to 24°C. Similarly, for the FFP and the Cryoprecipitate method, the temperature should be 4°C.

In the case of the timer, I suggest you set the timer value for 5 mins and check the result. Then you can alter this timer value for a better result. Since the centrifugation is affected by the geographical location, the timer value for different locations can differ slightly.

Acceleration refers to the acceleration of the rotor to obtain the set RPM/RCF from the rest position. You may set it to the maximum value. Similarly, deceleration refers to the deceleration of the rotor from the set value to the rest position. You may set this value to less than or equal to 4. If you set this value to a higher level, then the rotor will stop quickly. But this can negatively affect your result.

How to operate the blood bank centrifuge?

Follow the following steps while carrying on the blood fractionation in the blood bank.

  • Turn on the machine.
  • Set the parameters such as temperature, timer, RMP/RCF, acceleration, deceleration, etc, before you run the machine.
  • Measure the weight of the blood bags along with the bucket on the weighing balance.

  • Cover the lid of the centrifuge.
  • Press the start button.

(Note:- In any case, if you need to alter the temperature for centrifugation, it is better to do pre-heating or pre-cooling for about 5 mins. Else, it can affect your result. For this purpose, remove the samples from the centrifuge. Then, pre-heat or pre-cool at the required temperature. Once the centrifuge goes to the set temperature, put the sample in it. Then run the machine.

It is better to carry on similar tasks at a time. This will reduce the time for pre-heating or pre-cooling. Thus, the operation time will also be reduced).

  • The machine will operate until the set timer value.
  • Once the machine stops, open the lid of the blood bank centrifuge.
  • Remove the blood bags.

  • Keep your working place safe and clean. Else, the mouse and rats can break the wiring of the centrifuge machine.
  • If possible, remove the gasket from the centrifuge and wash it with warm water. Else, wipe it with a damp cloth.
  • Use Collins to clean the outer layer of the machine.
  • Never try to open the lid of the machine, until it has fully stopped.
  • Keep the machine in a properly ventilated room having an AC system.
